U.S. retailers eye Panama as a gateway to Latin America

Panama continues its development as a major distribution center for retailers and its performance in terms of freight rates, human resources is much better comparing to the US distribution centers.

Panama offers many advantages as a logistics provider because of it proximity to the Caribbean, Central and South America. Freight and labor is cheaper, that why it forces international retails to open centers of distribution centers particularly in Panama, as the efficiency greatly improves with it.

Markets of South and Central America are passing through incredible growth at the moment, thus making Panama very attractive and efficient place for both retailer and cargo owner. Both try to optimize their routes and costs and expand their market presence. Jamaica has recently started positioning itself as a logistics hub and won World Bank support for the projects made in this sector. But from the point of view of many respected experts, there is no other country in the region except for Panama able to provide full range of feeder services.

The Mayor of Rotterdam, Ahmed Aboutaleb, also noted once, that there are no countries in Latin America with similar characteristics to the logistics business of Rotterdam. “I’m happy that Rotterdam is unique and I am happy that Panama is unique”, were his exact words.
