Boquete, Chiriqui
Boquete is a small village about 40 km from the city of David, Chiriqui. This is a true paradise, especially for those who value pristine nature, stunning views of the mountains and outdoor activities. A world-famous tourist route called Quetzal Trail begins in Boquete and leads to the village of Cerro Punta. On the trail one can observe some of the biggest trees in the world, as well as wide variety of birds and animals. Cerro Punta is the highest populated community in Panama, located at the altitude of about 2,000 meters above the sea level. In the surrounding you may see the remaining of the ancient city destroyed by the eruption of Baru volcano about 600 AD.
From Cerro Punta, you may continue you journey to the highest point in Panama - Baru volcano (3475 m). This is the only active volcano in Panama. The width of crater is 6 km. The last time it erupted in 1550, it is expected that next eruption will occur not later than 2035. On the western slopes of the volcano lies the Baru National Park. It covers an area of 14.3 thousand hectares. The top of the volcano can be reached by SUV, but there is also accessible by foot (however we suggest only experienced travelers take this option). Directions
By car: From Panama City about 450 km along the Pan-American Highway (about 6 hours) to David, Chiriqui. At the entrance of David turn right at the Novey store. Stay on this road for another 46 km until you reach Boquete.
By bus: You need first arrive to Albrook Terminal. From there bus leaves to David every half hour/hour. Upon arrival to David do not leave the local terminal, but look for the yellow bus, which will take you to Boquete. (Buses run from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., fare ≈ $1,50).
By air: Take a flight from Panama City Albrook Airport to David, Chiriqui ( the ticket prices vary, but generally around $ 100 one way). Upon arrival to David you may get a taxi or take a bus to Boquete, depending on your budget.
