Tariff System to Be Changed in Public Transport

President of Panama Juan Carlos Varela has announced the readjustment of the Metro and Metrobus cost policy. Earlier both systems have been functioning separately from each other, but starting approximately mid 2015 this will no longer be true. The entire fee system will be remodeled and now based on the number of times passenger uses the public transportation.

The President also noted that the changes will become effective between may-june 2015, after the integration between different transport means will be completed.

The new flat rate will allow passenger make transfers without additional payments. And although the flat rate will be higher for single ride in the bus or metro, for many passengers whose commute includes daily transfer the rides will become cheaper and more comfortable and will present opportunity to save. Similar systems already functions in many cities around the world.
