Panama Metro fare is Announced

Rides in the newly opened Metro Panama are still free, but it will last only until June 15. President Ricardo Martinelli announced that the cost of a single ride will be .35 cents. Using his favorite channel of communication - Twitter, the president declared the news on Wednesday, May 14.

He added that "the purchasing power in Panama is consistent with such price", and that this cost would "provide a fast and trouble-free service." The first subway line was officially opened on April 5 and to this date it have had more than 6 million passengers. Until recently, the Metro functioned in trial mode, and had  "extreme security measures."

Since the beginning of operations there have been two failures. Both times the trains were due to system malfunctions Official of Metro Administration responsible for the work assured that such incidents are not extreme, but to be expected.
