Panama implements new measurement system

The new measuring system is to be implemented in Panama. The changes in supermarkets and gasoline station will take effect in October – everything will be changed from pounds to kilograms and from feet to meter. It is expected that it will take significant time for the population to adapt to the new standards, that’s why for most of places double measures will be effective for several years from now. The long adjustment period is also caused by problems with suppliers and lack of necessary software.

The official of Panama said that the country must comply with international measurement system, although the U.S.A., it is major trading partner still handles weight in pounds, volume in gallons and area in meters.
