Panama is the first country in Central America to establish direct flights to France. The Republic has numerous agreements for Open Skies between Panama and the Netherlands, Colombia, Barbados, the Dominican Republic and other countries.
In 2013, Avior Airlines, Aruba Air and Air France came to Panamanian market to become 3 more airlines among 18 that operate in the Republic. Also, it became known that Indian Airlines are planning to open a direct flight from New Delhi. If the plans are to become true, this will be the first bridge between Asia and Central America.
The proposed new flight had support of many representatives, including airlines and government officials from Ecuador, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Bolivia and Peru.
To this date, Panama maintains air connections with 36 countries. Also, there are 6 open skies agreements with the U.S., Peru, Curacao, Chile, Nicaragua and Guatemala. The flights from these countries freely pass through Panama with or without stop.
