The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) just held an initial ceremony for breaking the ground for the new Cruise Port in Amador. The new terminal will be built at the Pacific Side of Panama during the next 18 months.
The design and construction of the terminal on Perico island was earlier awarded to consortium Cruceros del Pacifico, which is an integration between Jan De Nul Panama SA and China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC).
As a member of the consortium, Jan De Nul Panama SA will take care of all dredging and land reclamation works as required for the construction and operation of the terminal.
This includes dredging the berth pocket, turning basin and access channel with a backhoe dredger and trailing suction hopper dredger.
This infrastructure project is a crucial part of economic development for Panama as it will generate about a 1,000 direct and 1,800 indirect job positions during its construction phase, as well as the permanent operational phase later. As President Varela mentioned: “All of this will have a great positive impact, as each and every of the workers who will be part of a massive work that will bring income to thousands of households and developing for the entire country”.
The new cruise terminal will contain two docks with a total capacity for almost 10,000 passengers, who can disembark simultaneously from two Oasis class cruise ships.
