The fourth bridge over the Panama Canal is a very important project that has been in plans for a couple of years. Current administration considers this project as one of its key landmarks, which will benefit more than 1,7 million Panamanians using this route on their regular commute.
The fourth bridge will be located north of the bridge between Americas. It will start in the North Corridor, smoothly curving to the Albrook heights and its total length will be a bit more than 6 km (3.7 miles).
This new magnificent piece of infrastructure will allow commuters to travel east of the the country without having to enter the Panama City. Likewise, this will represent high benefits for traffic to and from the city. As for the construction plan, there are four consortiums that will participate in the completion to win the design and construction contract.
The Ministry of Public Works of Panama (MOP) received the proposals from these four companies. Over the period of next 42 months the bridge will be built at a cost that exceeds US $ 1 billion.
The work is considered as the second larger in the country during all its history after the expansion of the Panama Canal. The construction is not supposed to affect any transit operations at the Panama Canal.
