The Government of Panama has just approved the proposal for the construction of Metro Line 2 in Panama City presented by Odebrecht-FCC consortium.
“We have been in communication with banks related to the project, and what we see, is that Odebrecht has received full support on the financial side. Presently, our intent is to continue working on the plan of construction”, announced Dulsidio de la Guardia, Minister of Economy and Finance of Panama.
At the moment, the Panamanian Government doesn’t see any risks associated with previous legal issues of Odebrecht in Brazil and the arrest of its former president last year. According the official statement, “it has no connection whatsoever with the plans of metro construction”.
Earlier on May 20, 2015 Brazilian-Spanish consortium won the tender for the construction of the second metro line evaluated at $1.9 billion.
“Our audit shows that all the documents were accordingly filed complying with every condition of the tender. It is now up to us when to make the decision and sign an agreement with consortium. And hopefully after a few years citizens of Panama City will enjoy improved transportation freedom”, the minister added.
