The Panama Metro Line 1 is 90% completed by now. According to the many sources the metro should be “almost ready” by Octrober or November current year right when the country hosts IberoAmericano XXIII. President Ricardo Martinelli said that if everything goes well they will be able to give a ride to all invited guests including the King of Spain and the President of Portugal.
The President also noticed that the metro will be a substantial assistance to solve the transportation problem in the city of Panama. His tour started at the Cinco de Mayo station, in the center of the capital, where only finishing work needs to be done.
The inspection tour included the area of yards and workshops in Ancon, on the banks of the Panama Canal, where the trains are being assembled after arriving in the country. In December 2010, Panama awarded the contract for the construction of the first Metro line to 1-Line Consortium, formed by construction FCC, of Spain, and Odebrecht, Brazil.
