Free Tourist Insurance

Panama offers free medical insurance for the period of 30 days for everyone who enters the country through Tocumen International Airport. The card is distributed for free. However there is absolutely no need in carrying it with you.

Those tourists who unfortunately need medical help, just need to show a entry stamp in passport, which should be done in international airport and should not exceed 30 days. Department of Tourism will automatically cover the costs of necessary medical assistance.

Such insurance has a wide range cases. It covers accidents with total amount of $20,000, $7,000 in hospitalizations and medical expenses, $7,000 in transportations etc.

Why Panamanian Government does that? Well, it simply hopes to improve tourist inflow into the county. The insurance is commonly not the most expensive part of the journeys, however it is additional incentive for those who have a transfer or plan to stay in the country for just a few days.
