Initial estimation on how many jobs will create the expansion project of the Panama Canal was about 7,000. However, according to the latest report of the Panama Canal Authority (ACP), during the past year the project employed on average 11,000 workers on site.
The real facts surpass the estimation by close to 60%. The reason for such a demand in labor may be connected with the need to reduce the time of completion, given the delays that have occurred, as well as problems related to performance. The management company prefers not to go into details and explain the issue of productivity. This is a very sensitive topic, and, in their opinion, should be considered representatives of the ACP.
