The Capital: Panama City
Panama City was the first European Colonial town to be established on the Pacific coast. It was founded August 15, 1519 by Spanish colonizers. Later it was almost completely destroyed by devastating attacks of pirates. For example, in 1671 it was almost wiped out by infamous Henry Morgan. Since 1997 the remained ruins are protected by UNESCO and still are accessible to tourists right in the middle of the bustling city.
The South-Western part of the city is formed with a long peninsula which reaches into the Bay of Panama. Here you can find the historical district of San Felipe. Just as Casco Antiguo, this district got into UNESCO list of world heritage. San Felipe is a major city attraction with many old buildings, which are being restored and converted into hotels, cozy restaurants and souvenir shops.
On the other hand there is high-rising ultra-modern Avenida Balboa – one the main streets in Panama City and its signature. The waterfront offers amazing view of Pacific Ocean towards Amador and the ships in front of the entrance to Canal. At night it turns people walk and enjoy the city skyline with its magnificent skyscrapers.
Another attractive area of Panama City – Punta Paitilla. Located east of the downtown on the small peninsula. Life here is safe and quiet with cozy shops and restaurants awaiting guests. Just as Avenida Balboa Punta Paitilla has great ocean views. Proximity center makes this area both good for investment and life.
And if Punta Paitilla is famous for its quiet streets full of trees and flowers, then another interesting area – Punta Pacifica is known for wider streets and model residential developments. Multiplaza is one of the modern malls of Panama City is located here.
Finally, there are Amador islands. Three beautiful islands with a path made to them right through the ocean. Island are mostly known for the variety of bars and restaurants with live music and good cuisine. Also, it is the right place to look for the souvenirs and Duty Free.
Meanwhile, there are other parts of the city that continue to boom and develop. We have only mentioned main areas of interest, however if you are looking to place to live, it makes sense to check out districts of San Francisco, Reverted Canal areas, Panama Pacifico zone, Arraijan among others. Panama city is definitely no longer a rural tropical place on the outskirts of the world it used to be. Now it is a modern multinational place full of diverse attractions, services and unique culture and it can be easily compared to places like Miami, Brisbane, or Singapore.
