A recent report published by the International Living with its Global Retirement Index 2016 states that Panama is the best place to retire as the couple here is able to live for $1,500 on the beach, eat fresh and ecologically clean food the entire year, without need to sacrifice the amenities and habits of home.
The combination cost/quality of life is so great, that Panama is leading the rating again. Here are the top 10 places to retire in 2016 according to International Living:
- Panama
- Ecuador
- Mexico
- Costa Rica
- Malaysia
- Colombia
- Thailand
- Nicaragua
- Spain
- Portugal
Panama has already been chosen by 50,000 US expats and many more came here from Canada, Europe and other parts of the world. Their choice wasn’t a bare coincidence. Panama leads in many categories of the index including: buying and renting real estate, visas and residence, cost of living, environment and amenities, climate, infrastructure and health care.
The rating was compiled after comparing answers from the correspondents all over the world who retired abroad.
This year index includes two additional categories which are healthy lifestyle and visas and residence. Many respondents note that life in Panama is not only cheaper, but also living here allows developing simper attitude towards life and worrying less.
As for the cost of living, we will give you one example. For instance, utilities are a fraction of what retires would pay back in the U.S. Covering electricity, water, internet, and trash pickup hardly ever exceeds $100 a month. So one can imagine that couple can easily get by with monthly expends at $1,500-2,000.
