Panamanian casinos gamble $8.7 daily

A report by the Comptroller General of the Republic reveals that in the first months Panama gambled away almost 516.4 million dollars at the rate of an average of 8.7 million dollars a day.

The figure represents an increase of $ 32 million more compared to the same period last year.

The document entitled Major Economic Indicators in the Republic Monthly, published on the website of the institution, specifies that only slot machines at average bring $248,000 per hour, which shows 10.8% of an increase compared to last year.

Necessary to mention, the same Comptroller states that during this period the country was visited by 443,000 tourists, hikers and cruise passengers, a 28,000 increase over the previous year (6.3%).

Although the leaping gambling economy faces a lot of protests in Panama, the Government recently decided that the activities related to gambling in casinos and extraction of nonmetallic minerals will become the funding sources for increasing pension programs and other Social Security programs.
