All three generators of 118 Megawatt in Dos Mares have been put into operation. The first two were launched in 2011 and finally the last one began work in February of current year.
French company GDF Suez was in charge of the implementation of generators. There were $460 million totally invested into the project, and it is expected that it will generate 6,000 Gigawatt between 2013 and 2022. That is equivalent of burning 350,000 tons of carbon dioxide emission per year, confirmed that company.
With current population of 3.4 million in Panama, the total capacity of all power plants in the country is 2.3 GW. At the same time, demand for electricity is rapidly growing, averaging 6.3% per year over the last 5 years.
Panama takes necessary step in order to implement new power plants, which positively reflects on economy. Current problem include construction of substitute power sources in order to provide greater stability of electrical infrastructure.
