11,000 sea turtles hatched in marine life reserve in Panama

The environmental group Cambutal Tortu-Agro campaigns for the conservation of about five species of the turtles.

In some areas of the county turtle eggs are in danger because they are being raided every year.

According to the environmental group report, hatched turtles of green and lora species were born in artificial nursery nearby Chachilla and Cambutal beaches in Tonosi. In this place the reproduction of both species is under protection.

The project receives the support from UN and until now received $25,000. It is organized by Cambutal Tortu-Agro, the Aquatic Resources Authority of Panama (ARAP) and the National Environmental Authority (ANAM). Within the project area it is prohibited to make any works of mining or excavation. The turtles of various species come to spawn to this region annually
