The Monthly Index of Economic Activity (MIEA) in Panama, for the period between January and June of 2013, had an increase of 6.31% compared to the same period last year. The figures were revealed by the Comptroller General.
The sectors of the economy which showed the most vivid growth are fishing, construction, mining and quarrying, transport, storage and communications, tourism, manufacturing, private health services and financial intermediation.
Other sectors of the Panamanian economy also improved positions, but at slower rate. However, there was clear decline in trade, which happened because of the problems in the Colon Free Zone.
Fishing is showing positive levels, mainly due to increased shrimp export.
