In recent years Central America made a revolution in energy production. Nowadays more than 60% of its electricity comes from renewable energy sources, including volcano gas, wind and hydro power, solar energy, and last but not least – agricultural waste, such as sugar cane.
And there is no wonder, the nature itself is offering its resource to produce power – there are more than 20 active volcanoes, 500 rivers, dozens of lakes and areas of seismic activity due to the proximity of Pacific Ring of Fire.
According to the recent study of Clmatescope, the use of these resources requires additional investment of $5 billion.
Central America lack all kind of conventional combustibles, nuclear or any other fossil resources, which are normally used in any industrially developed countries. But renewable energy sources have arranged draw in this fight. At present time there are 153 hydro plants which produce 44 GW of electricity annually.
