Presidential Ricardo Martinelli arrived to the new airport in Rio Hato in his new presidential jet. The reason of the visit is to inaugurate the new International Aiport of Scarlett Martinez.
The President arrived in the company of several ministers and deputies, also local officials and representatives of Cocle province were present at the event.
The modernization of the airport included construction of the tunnel under the new runway, which is a part of Pan-American Highway, one of the most important routes connecting North and South America.
The new international airport is expected to boost economic activity in the entire region. Many international airlines and hotel groups are already looking into the possibility of creating direct flights and hotel development here. Currently several international chains already operate in the area, among them Wyndham Playa Blanca Resort, Decameron, JW Marriot and Sheraton Bijao.
