Tourism has long established itself as the main income resource of Panama and now the revenues has become twice of what brings in the Canal.
Five years ago both sectors used to bring similar income, however with such a significant growth of tourism with growing popularity of Panama as such destination made a huge change. In 2009, tourism revenues amounted to $ 1.483 billion., While revenues from the Panama Canal fees amounted to $ 1.465 billion. Now this difference is obvious - tourism generates twice as much.
For this reason, the Chamber of Tourism along with the Panamanian Association of Hotels and the Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP), decided that public-private partnerships should continue to develop with greater emphasis on the development of tourism, as the results of cooperation in the face.
